How often do you get the chance to live in a palace? This was the palace where Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary of Burgundy lived (and indeed where she passed). The hotel is beautiful and is nicely located in Bruges, close to everything but not in the middle of it all. That is to say, you get the best of both worlds. Our room had a city view with big windows, allowing you to see the entire Bruges skyline, listen to the bells, and see one of the golden statues of the Duke’s Palace that adorn the roofline. The bathroom was spacious and had a separate bathtub and shower cabin. There was a window from the bathroom into the main room, which was nice. Breakfast had many options, including a station where you could carve your own Belgium chocolate (dark, milk, and white) with a two-handled knife! There were lots of fresh fruit options, waffles, and even sparkling wine. Many standard breakfast foods were available in the buffet, but omelets and lactose-free coffee options are available when you ask. The back room of the dining area is a little dark and not as nice as the front part, which has a wall of windows which allows you to see the palace while you eat. A coffeemaker is in the room, and we asked for a tea kettle and bottle opener from the front desk. There is a nice souvenir store just around the corner that stays open later than the other stores and sells a good variety of Belgium beers (and other things). We enjoyed staying in the Palace and it added to the experience of being in historic Bruges.

This hotel feels like from a fairy tale and I felt I was a princess for a few nights. Definitively I feel only in Bruges you can get to experience this. It felt historical, well kept, good treatment from the staff. I stayed like in an "annex rooms", which I preferred honestly more than the "main building" since they seemed very new and modern and didn't clashed with the castle vibes. The room was huge, had everything you need, very well kept an clean. The bed was amazing, you just wanted to stay sleeping. The breakfast was superb also. It is located very near to the main square and has lots of restaurants nearby. Also very near the train station, 5-10 minute ride.

Everything was perfect. I had communicated with the hotel via email about special room requests and they responded timely to my correspondence and exceeded my expectations on meeting the request. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly throughout our staff and cheerfully responded to our many questions regarding city activities. I also appreciated their assistance with holding our luggage before we could check in, making taxi arrangements for the 4 of us, and holding our luggage after checking out to allow more time to experience the beauty of Bruges.

Extremely pleasant stay. Our third stay at Duke’s. Reception staff and all other staff were very friendly and helpful. I have to especially praise Thomas (a trainee) who was at reception at our arrival and was most efficient. I wish all hotels we stayed at this time, nine of them, were staffed by such professional and friendly individuals. The room was spacious, wonderful large beds, nice bathroom. Breakfast excellent, good mix of food. Very good cappuccino. Dinner at the restaurant was great. Service exceptional. Will be back.

Rudi

Excellent location, all the best sites are within walking distance. The garden terrace is beautiful and quiet, with attentive staff who will bring drinks and snacks. The breakfast rooms are a delight, with staff to supply tea and coffee as you help yourself to the varied buffet (including bubbly!), including fruit, cheeses and yoghurt. Sadly, the menu doesn't stretch to mushrooms (as a vegetarian, I have no need of bacon or sausages). The lounges are comfortable and quiet, the hotel staff are all friendly and helpful.
